Club dives

Much of the diving in Norway during the afternoon and evening takes place after dark, especially in the winter months. This means that visibility becomes significantly reduced, and standard hand signals and procedures do not work as usual. We address this by using light signals and night diving procedures, which are not always covered in all basic courses. If you don’t have prior experience, it’s therefore important to talk to the dive leader beforehand so that you can go over the relevant rules and procedures, and choose a dive site where you can practice this—preferably during a previous dive in easier conditions (such as a Saturday dive).

When diving with a bottom timer, we use dive tables—for example, the Norwegian Diving and Treatment Tables—and calculate using a “flat” profile. This means we treat the dive time as if you are at the maximum depth for the entire duration of the dive.

If you completed your course without using a dry suit, you must first participate in an intro dive where you receive training in the use of a dry suit and the rest of the club’s equipment. The intro dive includes some theory and two dives with an instructor. See registration here.
